St Adelaide Academy
1st Grade

Welcome to first grade. My name is Mrs. Lopez. This is my thirty-seventh-year teaching for the Diocese of San Bernardino. One of the highlights of my life is being blessed to have taught Kindergarten for 23 years in the Catholic school I attended when I was younger. My school motto is, "Be kind to yourself and don't be afraid to make mistakes, you learn from them."
First grade is a time to grow and learn, both academically and socially. Throughout the year, first graders make great strides in math, reading, and writing. Students explore the world and communities in social studies, and discover, question, and solve problems in science. Students also participate in PE two times a week. Catholic values are instilled in everyday life in the classroom and on campus. We attend Mass or a Prayer Service weekly. Our religion program, Christ Our Life, helps students learn about the teachings of Jesus, the mass, sacraments and our parish community. We learn and practice prayers and listen and pray for individual and schoolwide intentions. The importance of kindness and respect is emphasized. In addition, students go on two field trips a year. Birthdays are celebrated. Each week, students are recognized for their accomplishments during Morning Assembly, or in class. It is rewarding to be teaching in this ministry, and to be a part of the St. Adelaide Community.
